Dial and Hands
The watch features an attractive silver sunburst dial that presents a light even patina. Applied baton indices with black inserts provide clear contrast, while minor spotting and freckling are visible under macro inspection. All printing, including the Omega logo and Genève script, remains crisp and legible. The baton hands carry black inserts and luminous material that shows appropriate aging and darkening. The metal surfaces of the hands display light oxidation and minor marks, complementing the vintage character of the dial.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case exhibits honest vintage wear, with moderate surface scratches and minor dings consistent with age and use. The brushed finish on the top surfaces transitions nicely to polished flanks, and the case edges remain reasonably defined. A smooth polished bezel is integrated cleanly into the case design, showing light surface scratches. The polished crown is signed with the Omega logo, though its knurling shows moderate wear. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, displaying minor surface scratches and light wear.
Movement
Inside beats the copper-toned Omega Caliber 1012 automatic movement. The rotor and bridges show light surface marks and minor signs of handling, with no severe corrosion or damage visible. The movement bears clear engravings, including the Omega logo, Swiss text, caliber number 1012, and the serial number 37224954. Recording +2+4s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet, featuring a period-correct stainless steel integrated-style flat link design. It secures via a signed Omega folding clasp. The bracelet shows moderate surface scratches and normal wear, comfortably accommodating a maximum wrist size of up to 18.5 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch displays honest wear throughout, including moderate case scratches, minor dings, and surface scratches on the integrated bracelet and domed acrylic crystal. The dial shows minor freckling under macro inspection, and the hands exhibit light oxidation with aged luminous material. Supported by the timegrapher results, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Genève offers a classic 1970s integrated bracelet design paired with the reliable in-house Caliber 1012 movement. The attractive silver sunburst dial and double-reference caseback add appealing details for the collector seeking a highly wearable vintage Omega.
History
The Omega Genève line was introduced in 1953 as a tribute to the city where Omega maintained its highest-tier watchmaking facilities. The reference 166.0173 features a 36mm tonneau-shaped case with an integrated lug design characteristic of 1970s styling. Interestingly, the dual reference numbers on the caseback indicate the original band configuration, with 166 designating a strap watch and 366 designating a bracelet watch. The watch is powered by the Omega Caliber 1012, an automatic movement introduced in 1972 that features a quickset date and hacking seconds.
