Description from the seller
Now available at auction from Second Vintage
This TAG Heuer Professional 200m from the 1980s offers a distinctive textured grey dial that remains in excellent, highly legible preservation. Demonstrating the classic two-tone sports aesthetic of its era, the watch features a bead-blasted finish and reliable quartz performance, presenting an honest and characterful example of the transitional 3000 series.
Brand: TAG Heuer
Model: Professional 200m
Reference Number: 934.213
Movement: Quartz
Dial: Textured grey with applied gold-tone indices and warm cream luminous material
Case Size: 37mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless steel
Production Year: 1980s
Condition: Good vintage condition.
Dial and Hands
The textured grey surface of the dial is clean and exceptionally well-preserved, providing a matte backdrop that enhances legibility. Applied gold-tone indices show no significant oxidation, and the luminous material within them has aged to a consistent, warm cream tone. All printed text, including the TAG Heuer shield and 3000 series designation, is crisp and fully intact. The watch retains its original Mercedes-style hands with a gold-tone finish and luminous material that perfectly matches the patina of the dial indices. Minor surface oxidation is visible on the hands under magnification.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a matte grey bead-blasted finish, displaying honest wear on a tool watch profile. The case edges remain relatively defined, with light handling marks and minor scratches consistent with its age. A gold-tone unidirectional bezel frames the flat crystal, showing visible wear and fading to the gold plating, particularly along the outer grip edges. The engraved numerals on the bezel remain clear, and the luminous pip at the twelve o'clock position is present but darkened. The gold-tone crown is signed with the TAG Heuer shield and exhibits noticeable wear to the gold plating on its knurled edges. The flat crystal is clear, with no significant scratches or chips visible.
Movement
Powering the watch is a quartz caliber, engraved with TAG Heuer 3.88, 955 414, and SEVEN 7 JEWELS. The movement presents a clean overall appearance with a visible battery. There are no obvious signs of battery leakage or severe corrosion, and both the circuit board and coils appear fully intact.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed two-tone bracelet, accommodating a maximum wrist fit of 19cm. The bracelet features matte grey and gold-tone links, secured by a signed TAG Heuer folding clasp with a diver extension. Consistent with regular use, the bracelet shows moderate stretch and significant loss of gold plating on the center links, revealing the base metal beneath.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial stands out for its excellent preservation and attractive patina. The case exhibits honest wear with light handling marks, while the gold-tone elements on the bezel and crown show visible fading and plating wear. The original bracelet displays moderate stretch and heavy plating loss on the center links. The quartz movement is clean and intact.
Dimensions
The case measures 37mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
A classic representation of 1980s TAG Heuer sports watch design. The highly preserved textured dial and matching warm patina make this a compelling example from the 3000 series, combining distinct vintage character with reliable quartz operation.
History
The TAG Heuer 3000 series emerged during a pivotal transitional era for the brand in the 1980s, bridging the gap between traditional Heuer designs and the modern TAG Heuer catalog. Characterized by its angular case geometry, prominent bezel grips, and robust construction, the 3000 series became a recognizable standard of the decade. Today, these models are appreciated by collectors for their unapologetic 1980s aesthetic and their role in establishing the design language of modern sports watches.
