Description from the seller
Here is a superb lot of two creative Kokeshi.
The first is a magnificent and authentic Sosaku wooden Japanese doll, entirely carved and hand-painted. This elegant and minimalist work is the piece by the famous master artisan Hajime Miyashita (born in 1940), one of the most renowned and awarded sosaku kokeshi artists of the 20th century, having notably received the prestigious Prime Minister's Prize in Japan.
This piece bears the artist's signature and highly poetic style: a slender and fluid silhouette, eyes closed painted with infinite delicacy inviting serenity, and a superb coiffure sculpted in relief adorned with a red attribute.
The body is dressed in a minimalist bright red drapery that highlights the natural grain and warmth of the wood.
Hajime Miyashita's workshop ceased activity in 2006, his creations are no longer produced and have become highly sought-after collectible pieces worldwide.

The second is an authentic and magnificent Japanese doll, entirely made of turned wood and hand-engraved.
This model was created by the famous artist Izumi Ueda, a recognized figure in the art of modern Kokeshi of the Showa era.
The work highlights the grain and the natural blonde color of the wood.
It is distinguished by its serene face with finely painted closed eyes, its geometric square-cut hairstyle and its small delicate knot sculpted at the top of the head.
The lower part of its body is adorned with subtly engraved floral motifs.
