Description from the seller
A refined Italian painting from the 18th century. Oil on canvas depicting a splendid Madonna with the Child and a cherub, of refined painting workmanship. The composition is stylistically placed in the first half of the 18th century; the diffused luminosity and the delicacy of the color transitions recall the models of the Tuscan school. The figure of the Virgin, with an oval face and a thoughtful gaze lifted to the heavens, is rendered with poignant sweetness. The infant Jesus, tender and chubby, nests naturally in the mother's womb, while the small angel peeking in from above with splendid golden curls contributes to an atmosphere of celestial serenity. The soft drapery of the Virgin skilfully alternates pink and blue tones, with a use of light that caresses the volumes with an almost vaporous effect. An ideal work for an elegant, classical, or contemporary living environment, also thanks to its distinctive format. The canvas is in fact mounted in a scenographic octagonal gilded wooden frame from the 20th century, with attractive decoration and some signs of wear. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color retouching in small areas. Overall in good condition. Sight size: H 115 x W 99 cm.
