Antique carved and gilded wooden frame from Italy dating to 1950–1960, with a deep burgundy velvet passe-partout; external dimensions 86 × 66 cm, internal 69 × 50 cm, depth 5.5 cm, in good used condition with age-related signs.
Description from the seller
Grand antique wooden carved and gilded frame with a burgundy/old red velvet inner mount - Second half of the 20th century
Impressive example of a large rectangular decorative frame, made in the second half of the twentieth century. The structure is wood and plaster, characterized by rich raised moldings carved with foliate volutes and baroque-inspired folds. The finish features warm gilding that enhances the play of light and shadow on the reliefs.
The frame is adorned with an elegant and deep internal mount covered in burgundy/old red velvet, an element that confers depth and importance to the housed artwork. An ideal piece for framing high-epoch paintings or for being easily converted into a monumental wall mirror with a strong visual impact.
Internal dimensions:
• Height: 50 cm
• Width: 69 cm
• Depth/Thickness: 5.5 cm
The supporting wooden structure is sound, solid, and stable. Being an antique item, there are evident and widespread signs of time and age consistent with use. In particular, there are cases of superficial gilding loss and chipping of the plaster layer exposing the white underlayer, mainly along the edges of the outer corners and the more exposed profiles of the relief. A few fine natural hairline cracks in the plaster (settlement cracks) are also visible, following the contour of the volutes. The velvet of the mount maintains good color saturation.
Please carefully examine the rich photo gallery attached, which constitutes an integral and fundamental part of the description of the item’s condition.
The inner painting is offered as a courtesy.
