Théodore WEBER (1838-1907) – Official Painter of the Navy
Born in Leipzig in 1838 and died in Paris in 1907, Théodore Weber is a Franco-German maritime painter of the 19th century. A pupil of the famous Eugène Isabey, he distinguished himself with his remarkable depictions of seascapes, harbors and ships, notably on the Normandy coast.
Exhibiting at the Paris Salon from 1858, he gained notable artistic recognition and became Official Painter of the Navy in 1886. His works appeal for their realism, the finesse of their execution and their mastery of marine atmospheres, between stormy skies and plays of light.
Today, his paintings testify to the great craftsmanship of 19th-century marine painters and hold genuine interest for collectors and enthusiasts of old paintings.
