Grey-brown natural color cylinder shape Chinese stone seal with ruyi and characters –China- Minguo period

On offer is a cylinder shaped grey-brown inscribed Chinese stone seal. On the top side, there is a carved-out ruyi shape. It represents good fortune, power and blessings. It literally means “as you wish” or “as desired”. The seal has a nice soft glossy appearance and nice patina from use and age. The face of the seal shows characters in the Archaic style. UV check shows that the stone is natural, so not artificially colored. A fine old example, very hard to find!

Provenance: Recently, we had the privilege of acquiring a richly varied collection of old/antique Chinese stone seals. These remarkable seals have been brought together over many years by a private collector. They consist of good quality authentic Chinese seals made from various colored mineral stones, including possibly shoushan stone (larderite). The dating varies; but they are all from the Qing period into the 20th century.

During the coming period, we will offer items of this collection at a time. Please use your knowledge and judge for yourself, we offer them all without reserve price. Don't miss this opportunity! Good luck bidding!
