AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The order was established on May 19, 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Since Napoleon had abolished the nobility, he sought to create a new system to reward civilians and military personnel for exceptional bravery or meritorious service to society. The order has since been maintained by every successive French regime.
