Description from the seller
An Absolute Piece of Gaming History - Nintendo Game & Watch BALL (1980) with Original Packaging
For the true collector and lover of retro gaming: an extremely rare opportunity to own the pioneer of handheld games. Offered is the very first Game & Watch from the Silver Series: BALL (Model AC-01), released by Nintendo in 1980.
This specimen comes with the original box and the original foam tray. Let me be clear: nowadays it is absurdly difficult, if not impossible, to find an original box for the very first Game & Watch from 1980. Most boxes have simply been discarded or worn away over the past 46 years. That this box has survived decades and is still with the game makes this set a real holy grail for collectors.
The condition of the item:
The Game (Very good condition): The game itself is in fantastic, nearly new condition. The metal faceplate is beautiful, the housing is clean, and all buttons are in perfect condition. The display, which shows the iconic juggling figure ("Mr. Game & Watch") clearly, is crystal clear. The battery cover is neatly present and the serial number (03512853) is clearly visible on the undamaged back. In this state you will not find the BALL game anymore.
The Packaging (Original, with significant signs of wear): As mentioned, the extremely rare original red box is present. Note: The box shows obvious signs of time. While the front and colors are still relatively well preserved, the edges and flaps (especially on the sides) are heavily damaged, torn, and partially worn away. The box lacks rigidity along the edges and shows clear wear to the cardboard. Nevertheless, it is the authentic original box, and the extreme rarity more than compensates for the external condition. The original white foam insert in which the game rests is present and in reasonably good, intact condition.
The Manual: To present the set in full, a reproduction of the original manual has been added.
Why is this so special?
BALL was the very first game in the Game & Watch series, conceived by the legendary Gunpei Yokoi. It laid the groundwork for Nintendo’s immense success in the portable gaming market. A specimen that has been so well preserved, and where the absurdly rare original packaging is still present (regardless of condition), is a crucial piece of video game history. The pristine condition of the game itself makes this offer particularly attractive.
