Antique Napoleon III style silvered brass desk lamp from France, dating to around 1950–1960, measuring 58 cm high by 24 cm wide and 24 cm deep, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
This elegant quinqué-inspired desk lamp, crafted around the mid-20th century, refines traditional 19th-century domestic lighting models through a more refined and decorative execution. Its frame is made of polished-plated brass with a profile of turned lines that alternates moldings, fluted rings, and softly bulbous volumes, yielding a balanced and harmonious presence. The metallic surface reflects light warmly and enhances the noble character of the piece.
Crowning the lamp is its original satin-glass shade, globular in shape, decorated with delicate acid-etching featuring vegetal motifs and ornamental scrolls inspired by classical design. This decorative work, visible across the entire surface of the glass, creates an appealing play of transparencies and shadows when the lamp is lit, diffusing a soft and cozy illumination. It also retains elements reminiscent of the old oil lamps, such as the side regulation mechanism, reinterpreted here in an electrified version typical of the era.
The contrast between the shine of the polished brass and the delicate matte finish of the etched glass gives the piece a timeless aesthetic that blends easily with both classical interiors and eclectic or vintage-inspired environments. Beyond its function as ambient lighting, it stands as an attractive decorative object that reflects the transition between the artisanal tradition of the old oil lamps and mid-20th-century domestic design.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
