Description of the Work
Impressive seascape signed by Swedish painter Ernst Smith, a work of great visual impact where the artist masterfully captures the dynamism of the raging sea. The textured brushstrokes recreate the foamy movement of the waves in the foreground, dominated by bluish, greenish, and deep gray tones.
In the horizon, the vastness of the ocean opens up beneath a dramatic and clouded sky, illuminated by subtle crepuscular and rosy reflections that break among the clouds, above which a vessel can be seen sailing in the distance. It is an exceptional example of Nordic marine painting from the late 19th or early 20th century, characterized by atmospheric realism and the expressive power of nature.
