Description from the seller

It is a high-quality antique sterling silver set (a hand mirror with its accompanying pin dish) with real tortoiseshell and refined silver piqué inlay.

What do the hallmarks tell us?
* M&W (Silversmith): Made by Mappin & Webb, one of the most prestigious British luxury brands and the royal warrant holder. This brand is highly sought after by collectors.
* Lion Passant: This guarantees British sterling silver (.925).
* Anchor: This indicates that the set has been tested in the silver city of Birmingham.
* Year letter 'u' (in this specific shield-shaped mark): This means the hand mirror was made in 1919. The pin dish has the year letter S, made in 1913
* A3813: The struck model or serial number of Mappin & Webb.

Condition and Value Build-Up
* Strengths: The silverwork is beautifully decorated with a leaf border (chased or bright-cut). The piqué-silverwork in the tortoiseshell is exceptionally detailed, elegant, and nowhere worn away. The fact that it is a set (mirror + dish) significantly increases the collectibility value.
* Weaknesses: In the close-up photo there is a small chip/damage visible on the edge of the tortoiseshell (near the silver rim). The mirror glass also appears to have some light wear or fine scratches. Because tortoiseshell is very delicate, these minute age-related traces are acceptable, but they keep the price just below the absolute top price.
