Le Sage; Jean Gigoux - Histoire de Gil Blas de Santillane - Illustrations de Jean Gigoux - 1855-1855

Romantic edition from the 19th century, illustrated by Jean Gigoux, an important figure in French illustration of that period.

Edition published in Paris by Paulin in 1835, particularly appreciated for the richness of its illustration, its numerous wood-engraved vignettes, its portraits, its narrative scenes and its decorative compositions.

The work notably features a portrait of Gil Blas, a title page illustrated, and numerous engravings integrated into the text.

Binding from the period: elegant green leather half-binding, smooth spine richly adorned with gold motifs, gilt title and covers covered with green marbled paper.

Condition:

* Binding well preserved, showing minor rubbing and signs of use.
* Gold decorations on the spine clearly visible.
* Interior generally well preserved.
* Sporadic foxing, more evident on certain leaves.
* Illustrations and type are clear.

A fine example of romantic bibliophilia, bringing together a great classic of French literature, a historically important illustrated edition, and a decorative 19th-century binding.

Photographs are an integral part of the description.
