Albert Genta, born September 13, 1901 in Paris and who passed away in 1989, was a French painter renowned for his mastery of the female nude, in which he established himself as one of the most distinctive artists of his time. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, he developed early a personal, sensitive, and audacious style, which earned him notice at Parisian salons as early as the 1920s.
In 1941, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants a nude titled Sleeping Woman, confirming his place on the Parisian art scene. His prolific work explores the female body with a vivid palette, strong contrasts, and a continual pursuit of expressiveness. Genta is also the author of instructional works, including Le dessin enseigné par l’exemple (1949), bearing witness to his role as a transmitter and his time at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
