Magnificent, rare set of 10 original, hand-colored plates of game birds and waterfowl in large format 30.5 x 24 cm. These plates come from the scarce and sought-after first edition of Beverly R. Morris – British Game Birds and Wildfowl (London, Groombridge and Sons, 1855). The detailed illustrations were designed and printed by the famous master printer Benjamin Fawcett (1808–1893). The base is a refined wood engraving, which was then masterfully hand-colored. Because this is the very first edition, the prints are of the highest quality and considerably larger in size than the later reprints.
All in good condition, slightly discolored, a few spots (see photos). Small bump and/or dog-eared corner.
