Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and perception of image in urban space. He first became known through a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a striking, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works belong to the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of the gesture. The deep black and rough surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacturing
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist's proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Print on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term stability of colors and a modern and contemporary rendering.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a writer-artist and musician career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. Singer-songwriter, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
