Description from the seller
Antique pair of wooden ice skates with original leather bindings, c. 1890-1920
A particularly distinctive and atmospheric pair of antique wooden skates from circa 1890-1920.
The skates are equipped with nicely shaped wooden footboards, metal blades, leather heel bindings with metal buckles, and long woven securing straps. The specimens are stamped with the letters "L" and “R” visible, presumably indicating the left and right skate.
Above all, the completeness makes this pair attractive. The old leather bindings, buckles, and long straps are still present and together form a beautiful authentic whole. Wood, metal, leather, and textile have developed a distinctive patina over the years.
The skates are in their original used condition and show signs of aging, including wear and discoloration of the wood, oxidation on metal parts, and wear and aging of leather and textile. These signs are consistent with the probable age and are clearly visible in the photos.
An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of historic skates, winter sports, and vintage objects. Because of their form and patina, they also make a handsome decorative pair.
Period: ca. 1890-1920
Origin: Netherlands
Material: wood, iron, leather, and textile
Quantity: 2, one pair that belong together
Condition: authentic used condition with signs of aging and wear
