Hubert Sattler 1817 - 1904 (E Grossen) - Stadsgezicht

Hubert Sattler (Salzburg, January 21, 1817 – Vienna, April 3, 1904) was an Austrian landscape painter who gained great fame with his extremely detailed and topographically accurate cosmoramas. These were illuminated perspective paintings of cities, monuments and landscapes from around the world, which the public could view in a dark room through special lenses. Sattler masterfully exploited this to cater to 19th-century wanderlust and curiosity about exotic places.

Sattler produced his larger works under his own name, but also sold smaller souvenir and art collections under various pseudonyms, including Louis Ritschard, E. Grossen and Gottfried Stähly-Rychen
