Description from the seller
Contains 26 lessons and 11 moral characters, aimed at moral philosophy and practical ethics.
Gellert was a professor in Leipzig and wished to promote the moral and religious awareness of the citizen with his work.
The translator Lublink based himself on the German edition from Leipzig (1770) and criticized Pajon’s French translation as defective.
The book includes an illustrated title vignette and a portrait of Gellert by Houbraken (after Dinlingerin).
This work is an important example of Enlightenment moral philosophy and was very influential in the 18th century.
As an antiquarian book it is rare but sought after, especially in good condition like this.
