Lynch-Bages has belonged to the Cazes family since the 1930s. Classified fifth growth in 1855, it is unanimously regarded as performing well above its rank. This is the Pauillac par excellence: generous, fleshy, and instantly recognizable.
2003 is the vintage of the heatwave. The northern Medoc produced remarkable wines, unlike other parts of Bordeaux. This 2003 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It offers a deep color and a nose of preserved cassis, smoke, liquorice, and graphite. The palate is ample and opulent, supported by ripe tannins and a true Pauillac signature. Robert Parker gave it up to 95/100. At 23 years old, it is fully mature and drinkable within the next decade.

1 bottle of:
Château: Château Giscours
Appellation: AOP Margaux
Color: Red
Region: Bordeaux
Country: France
Vintage: 1985
Volume: 75 cl

Third growth in 1855, Giscours is one of the largest estates in the Margaux appellation, situated on the gravel soils in the southern part of the appellation. The château has experienced uneven periods throughout its history. Its modern renaissance is generally dated to 1995, with the arrival of Alexander van Beek as managing director.
1985 is a charming Bordeaux vintage. It produced balanced and harmonious wines, enjoyed young, and which have often aged better than expected. In a vertical tasting of the château, this 1985 was described as a wine of medium body, with notes of smoke, cassis, cedarwood, damp earth, and spices. The finish combines red fruit and green olive. At 41 years old, this is a fully tertiary Margaux, ready to drink now.
