After an initial period devoted to sculpture there was a prolonged pause that lasted for a while. Since December 2014 I have resumed with the “two dimensions,” setting sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic paintings.
I love painting abstract landscapes, but recently I’m pushing myself to paint human faces, both imaginary and actually existing.
For me, painting is about “freezing time” in that exact moment; one of my paintings is often a faded memory and therefore my works are “worn, eroded by time.” Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are glimpses of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that—in time—grow on the surface.
The inexorable passage of time is the main theme of my works.
Coming from a beautiful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs that are quite perceptible to the touch as well as to the naked eye.
In this recent period, after several years in which my works were made from pieces of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and grids repeated with mathematical precision that seen up close seem to form a colorful abstract painting but the further you back away, the more a figure painted from many discs emerges.
Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be abused or, worse, become victims of violence.
