Dubout - Kama Soutra - 1987

Beautiful illustrated exemplary edition of coquettish and humorous color illustrations in text and in text-free sections, with a frontispiece by Dubout, of this bold bibliophilic achievement that pairs the classic Indian text devoted to the art of love and voluptuousness with the satirical and exuberant graphic universe of Dubout.

The text, translated and adapted for a Western readership, preserves its dimension as an erotic and philosophical treatise, describing practices, postures, and rules of love life, but it is transfigured by Dubout's humorous and caricatural illustration.

His drawings, abundant, grotesque and full of vitality, subvert the seriousness of the text, giving it a burlesque and ironic tone, creating a contrast between ancient wisdom and modern verve.
