Description from the seller
Rare 9-volume illustrated set of this major edition by Père Isaac-Joseph Berruyer, French Jesuit historian born in Rouen in 1681 and died in Paris in 1758 -
This ambitious work aims to present the history of the Hebrew people from the origins of the world to the coming of the Messiah, by drawing on the narratives of the Old Testament to unite them into a continuous, accessible, and pleasant-to-read historical narrative -
The author relies in particular on the first books of the Bible, from the creation of the world and the origins of humanity to the great milestones of Israel’s history, passing through the patriarchs, the covenants between God and His people, the episode of the Flood, the story of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the captivity of the Hebrews in Egypt, Moses’s mission, the Exodus and the wanderings in the desert -
