Description from the seller
I am selling this original bronze matrix, a rare religious object dating from the late 18th century / early 19th century. Coming from the parish of Moiré in the Diocese of Lyon, it constitutes an exceptional historical and numismatic piece for collectors.
- Object type: Bronze matrix in a circular shape with a pointed fin on the back.
- Origin: Parish of Moiré, Diocese of Lyon
- Era: Early 19th century (1802)
- Material: Bronze
- Category: Religious object
- Feature: Official matrix of the Commune of Moié in the Diocese of Lyon to seal the parish's official acts.
- Rarity: motif of Saint Peter holding two keys with a rooster in the background
- A transition (late 18th century): The seal was engraved just before the Revolution, at a time when French began to replace Latin on the seals of some parishes, but with artisans using traditional bronze with a tenon techniques. A locally crafted piece from the very beginning of the 19th century: When churches reopened after the Revolution (around 1802), the parish priest of Moiré had a seal urgently made by a local foundry craftsman, who used the old method (bronze casting of a single piece with a back tenon) rather than the new wooden handles or turned metal handles fashionable in the big cities.
Very good condition with only minimal handling marks, diameter 42 mm, weight 44 grams
Feel free to contact me for more details or additional photos of this remarkable piece.
