Luigi Mantovani (Milan, May 29, 1880 – Milan, September 25, 1957) was an Italian painter.

Biography
Encouraged by his father Giuseppe - who was an engraver - to pursue painting, Luigi Mantovani enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1896 and studied with Giuseppe Mentessi, Vespasiano Bignami, and Cesare Tallone. He debuted at the IV Brera Triennial Exhibition in 1900, with two landscape studies, and began an exhibiting career that saw him consistently present at the exhibitions held by the Milan Artist Family (Famiglia Artistica Milanese) and by the Society for Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition, establishing himself on the artistic scene in 1906 with participation in the Milan International Exhibition. From the twenties onward he distinguished himself in Milan’s cultural circles: he was among the organizers of the Lombard Watercolorists Association and of the “Famiglia meneghina,” and he was awarded the gold medal at the landscape exhibition dedicated to Lombardy in 1926.

His production of cityscapes and landscapes is characterized by a fragmented brushwork and the adoption of a clear, transparent color range, which would become his signature hallmark. In the second half of the 1940s, coinciding with the revival of his exhibitions after the long interruption caused by the Second World War, during which Mantovani continued to paint in the attic of his Milanese home—thanks to his patron Guido Snider, owner of a company of espresso machines—he resumed his repertoire of Milanese and Venetian views, which had now become repetitive and conventional, but with a more fluid and lively painting technique.
