Description from the seller

Woodcut illustration dedicated to the European beaver, about which it is written that it resembles the marmot for its teeth, the squirrel for its claws, the monkey for its limbs.

The drawing was made by Giorgio Liberale da Udine and the woodcut carved by Wolfang Meyerpeck for the 1604 edition of the famous herbarium by Pietro Andrea Mattioli entitled "De i discorsi di m. Pietro Andrea Matthioli sanese, medico cesareo", a work on which generations of apothecaries, botanists and physicians have formed, in which part of the second book is devoted to some animals.

The European beaver is illustrated and described with a zoological and especially medical aim, namely highlighting which diseases and ailments it can cure depending on which parts are used and how they are treated.

The plate has a beautiful and uniform coloration of fairly old workmanship and shows excellent preservation, with a few negligible, light stains in the text area.

Accurate and prompt shipment.
