Ivlii Caesaris Clavdini. De ingressu ad infirmos, by Iulii Caesaris Clavdini, bound in full parchment, written in Latin, original edition published by Sebastianum Bononinum in Bologna, circa 1619, 298 pages, 20 x 15 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Binding in full limp parchment, a bit stained on the boards. Spine without lettering, somewhat worn.
1 blank leaf, [19], 1 blank leaf, 258, 40, 1 blank leaf
The work is a practical and theoretical manual that outlines in a systematic way the duties, conduct, diagnosis, and method of the physician when he goes to the patient’s bedside, whether he treats alone or must consult with other colleagues. Ivlii Caesaris Clavdini (italianized as Giulio Cesare Claudini) is the Latin humanistic name of a famous Bologna physician and philosopher who lived around the XVI and XVII centuries (Bologna, about 1550 – Bologna, 1618). This edition (the first is from 1612) was edited and published in Bologna by his son, Francesco Claudini, for the types of Sebastiano Bonomi and at the expense of Girolamo Tamburini.
Beautiful printer’s device on the frontispiece with a handwritten possession note. Numerous engraved marginal notes. Some initials, tailpieces, and decorated initial. Ex libris applied to the flyleaf and handwritten notes on the first blank leaf. The copy inside is a little stained, with some foxing and browned paper. In general, decent conservative conditions, complete and usable.
