Norman painter born in 1924, Claude Gaignoux established himself as one of the region’s most sensitive artists to the light of ports and maritime landscapes. Having permanently settled in Normandy, he developed a body of work where port scenes, the coasts of the Channel, seascapes and changing skies predominate. His style, at once sober, luminous and deeply atmospheric, favors soft harmonies and balanced compositions.
Gaignoux regularly exhibits in Norman galleries and participates in several regional salons, where his work is appreciated for its accuracy of observation and its sense of pictorial silence. His paintings, often imbued with discreet poetry, appeal to lovers of figurative painting attached to coastal landscapes. He died in 2005, leaving a coherent, elegant body of work sought after by collectors of Norman painting of the 20th century.
