Jules‑Émile Zingg (1882–1942)
A major painter of the School of Paris, Jules‑Émile Zingg established himself as one of the great interpreters of French rural landscapes. Native of Franche-Comté, he early on developed a warm pictorial language, composed of broad brushstrokes, earthy harmonies and a soft light that magnifies countryside scenes, Breton villages and coastal shores.
Close to Dunoyer de Segonzac and the artists of the Salon d’Automne, Zingg built a deeply humanist oeuvre, celebrating the simplicity of daily life and the poetry of the terroirs.
Today, his paintings are sought after for their authenticity, decorative strength and their ability to create an immediately perceptible atmosphere in a contemporary or classical interior.
