Description from the seller
Henk van Leeuwen van Oudewater (Ter Aar 1890 – Voorburg 1972)
Oil painting on canvas - Polder/Heath landscape around Oudewater, in the Utrechtse Waarden region.
Canvas size: 45 x 25 cm - Frame size in this gallery listing: 60 x 40 cm.
Biography: Henk Van Leeuwen
The painter Henk van Leeuwen, who also called himself Van Leeuwen van Oudewater, was a natural-born impressionist in the tradition of the Hague School.
His landscapes are strongly imbued with mood, and in their bold construction of light and dark tones they occasionally recall the works of Jacob Maris.
In some paintings, impressionism and expressionism join hands: in broad strokes he conveys his impression of a landscape or village, while at the same time he expresses his feelings through color and form.
Van Leeuwen studied at the Hague Academy, received guidance from Willem de Zwart, and after 1923 studied in Paris, among others at the École Julian and La Grande Chaumière.
Upon sale the painting, with its frame, is carefully packed and shipped internationally with tracking.
