Description from the seller
Paul-Jean Toulet - Les Contrerimes - Éditions du Divan / Chez Émile-Paul Frères - 1921
Original edition of this work, printed on Alfa paper. The original editions of this major text are particularly rare as they were printed in only 1300 copies for this grade of paper, this one being a specially reserved copy for the publisher.
Paul-Jean Toulet (1867-1920) was a French poet and novelist famous for having created the poetic form of the contrerime. Suffering from frail health, he spent the end of his life isolated in Guéthary in the Basque Country, where he refined his last verses. Written mainly from 1910 and completed shortly before his death, Les Contrerimes constitutes his poetic masterpiece, published posthumously.
Les Contrerimes is a collection of poems with an innovative metre and a melancholic tone, mixing irony, elegance, nostalgia, and reflections on the passing of time.
Original sewn binding under a dust jacket printed with red and white diamond motifs, kept under its protective tissue, in excellent condition.
155 pages.
