Joseph Hémard - Trente Tableaux d’Histoire de France - 1912

Thirty Histories of France, revised and corrected by Joseph Hémard - Éditions du Sourire, Paris, 1912. First edition - Fine publisher's binding, illustrated in color on its two boards. Cloth-bound spine, red - 25 x 32 cm, oblong - 64 p.
It is an illustrated work containing 30 color plates, each representing a notable episode or figure in the history of France. The illustrations are accompanied by comments and captions. The style of Joseph Hémard (1880-1961), at once humorous and fanciful, is very much present in this work, which makes it a typical example of his talent as an illustrator and his sense of history.
