Born in Le Havre in 1865, Georges Binet was a French painter renowned for his luminous Normandy landscapes. Trained in Paris under masters such as Fernand Cormon, he developed a style that blends realism with impressionist touches, delicately capturing the play of light on the Seine, the beaches of the Pays de Caux, and rural life scenes.
Between 1889 and 1939, he regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, and in 1937 he was awarded the Legion of Honor. His works are now housed in several Norman museums, notably the MuséoSeine in Caudebec-en-Caux, which held an exhibition titled “Dans la peau de G. Binet, peindre et flâner en bord de Seine.” He also features in public collections, and his paintings are regularly shown at events such as the Normandie Impressionist Festival.
After a life devoted to painting, he settled in Toulon in 1941, where he continued to create until his death in 1949. His paintings still bear witness today to a sensitive view of the landscapes and atmospheres of northern France.
