Description from the seller
The subject of this auction is a large-format oil painting on canvas depicting Vladimir Lenin in a dark suit and tie against a background of shades of orange and red (reminiscent of the glow of a conflagration), in keeping with the canon of Soviet Socialist Realism.
The painting is unsigned, which was a common tactic employed by artists of that period who did not wish their names to be associated with works of this kind. They were often forced to accept such commissions.
The canvas shows signs of ageing, cracks and areas where paint has flaked off. Its current condition only reinforces the impression that we are dealing with an authentic witness to history. The painting was stored in a dry room – it is free from any musty or mouldy odours. The painting was purchased at an antiques market in Kraków.
The painting will be carefully packed and dispatched rolled up.
Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the description.
We do not ship to Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Belarus, or the U.S. due to limited availability.
