Description from the seller

For sale: Mary with the Child 100 years old: a truly splendid and rare vintage polychrome plaster statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. This characteristic piece of religious art is designed by the well-known Belgian artist Oscar Van Laere (1883–1961) and hails from the heyday of Art Deco (about 100 years old, interwar period, about 1925-1930).
Important features and highlights:
• 100% Authentic signature: The statue on the back is clearly audible and deeply incised signed with the original signature "O. Van Laere".
• Official registration: Equipped with the inlaid model number 026 and the official stamp "DEPOSE" (registered design), which guarantees authenticity and studio origin.
• Hand-painted detail: On the left side the gold-colored initials 'R.C' adorn the unique mark of the master painter from the workshop.
State of the object:
The statue is in a beautiful, well-used vintage condition with a wonderfully preserved original patina. Matching the venerable age of almost a century, the plaster at the back/bottom of the hood shows the inevitable, but minuscule signs of aging (tiny flakes of paint). As perfectly visible in the detailed photos, this in no way detracts from the serene and decorative appearance of this unique collector's item.
A wonderful opportunity for lovers of religious art, Art Deco and authentic Belgian heritage! The statue will of course be packed with the utmost care and safety for shipping.
