Background information Old Church Randwijk:
From excavations it has come to light that there originally stood a 12th-century tufa stone hall church. This little church had a narrowed rectangular choir, and the nave was as wide as the current central aisles. Probably this little church was rebuilt or repaired in brick in the 13th century. In the 15th century a tower was added here. At the end of the 15th century the old nave and choir were probably replaced by new construction.

The oldest mention of the church dates from 1395, when the church is listed in the Utrecht dom factory list. The church possessed a vicarage for Saint Antonis and for Our Lady.

During the Reformation in the 16th century the church came into Protestant hands. In 1614 there was still opposition to the relics that were present in the Randwijk church.

In 1901 the church burned down. In 1925 large-scale renovations followed, in which the pillars in the nave were reduced to two remaining and the original four pointed-arched vaults were replaced by round arches. Rooms for services were created by constructing walls in the nave and side aisles. A part of the side walls was also raised with gables, so larger windows and thus more light could enter.

In the winter of 1944-1945 the German occupier blew up the tower. The nave was also destroyed in this act. The pulpit could be saved, but was not restored and is presumably still burned during the same winter.

After the war the choir was restored and in 1953 the new nave was completed. The pillars removed in 1925 were reinstalled, but the side aisles were made narrower than originally the case. The foundations of the old side-wall walls can still be seen on the outside as sidewalks.
