Description from the seller
Rare Carrara marble sculpture – “Carnevale” – attributed to Cesare Lapini – Italy, late 19th century
Description:
Rare sculpture in white Carrara marble, dated to the late 19th century, attributed to Cesare Lapini (Florence, 1848–1893).
A work of high quality and great charm, entitled “Carnevale”, as engraved on the base.
The statue depicts a child in sailor’s attire, holding a mask between the hands — a clear symbol of Carnival and childhood innocence.
Carved in solid Carrara marble, it shows extraordinary attention to detail: the handling of the curly hair, the natural folds of the fabrics, and the fine finishes of the face and hands demonstrate a sculptural mastery of museum level, typical of the Tuscan school of the nineteenth century.
The style and the sweetness of the expression recall famous Lapini models such as “Buonanotte”, “Innocenza” and “Sorriso”, characterized by the same infant grace and the fineness of the modeling.
The inscription “CARNEVALE” identifies the subject, not the artist’s signature.
An ideal sculpture as an interior decorative object or as a figurative art marble collectible.
In excellent overall condition, the passage of time has left light signs of wear that, however, do not compromise the beauty, form, or integrity of this unique piece.
Please note that, being an antique item, it may present slight imperfections or traces of time, which enhance its authentic character and historical charm.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a full appreciation of the quality and authenticity of the work.
