This modern figurative composition brings together fruits, a bottle and various objects arranged in a deliberately simplified space. The treatment through stylized forms, graphic flat areas and worked texture sits within a decorative aesthetic close to the modern figuration of the second half of the 20th century.
Title: Still life: Objects and fruits
Technique: Oil on paper
Artist: Yves Ganne (1931-2019)
Artwork format: 38 x 49 cm
Condition: Good condition, several signs of wear and small losses of material visible on the surface
Born in Angers, the French painter and lithographer Yves Ganne (1931-2019) marked post-war art with his vibrant and colorful figurative style. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts of his hometown, he later perfected his art in Paris by becoming a pupil of the famous master Fernand Léger. This influence is felt in his mastery of form and the graphic energy that emanates from his textured compositions. Known for bucolic landscapes, luminous still lifes and elegant portraits, he deftly wielded oil painting and gouache. His works are characterized by vivid brushstrokes, radiant light and a poetic reinterpretation of daily reality. He quickly gained international recognition, exhibiting his canvases not only in France but also in the United States, notably in Chicago. Parallel to his paintings, his significant production of original lithographs testifies to his great technical and graphic know-how. Much of his creation pays homage to the French countryside, to poppy fields and seaside scenes. His artistic market remains particularly active, his works regularly appearing in major sales at the Hôtel Drouot. He passed away in 2019 in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, leaving behind a major pictorial heritage celebrating color and figuration.
