Description from the seller
Robert Giovani (sometimes written as Robert Giovanni, born in 1900 and died in 1977) was a landscape painter of Italian origin, active mainly in France in the first half of the 20th century.
Of Italian origin, he moved to France where he carried out most of his artistic activity. He regularly stayed in Paris, dedicating many of his works to the characteristic views of Montmartre and along the Seine.
Costa Azzurra. He painted in a marine and coastal style the landscapes of the Riviera, the Esterel coast and Brittany.
(isorel) carried out directly on site (en plein air). His classical style is distinguished by the generous use of color and of the material (impasto), focusing on the effects of Mediterranean light and the movement of the water.
The painting presented here is an oil on panel signed Robert Giovani depicting a view of a Paris boulevard. The work was created in the early years of the 20th century. The dimensions of the canvas are 125cm x 86cm with the frame, while without it is 104cm x 66cm. The frame is contemporaneous, i.e., from the early 20th century.
Unlike other paintings by this master, an Impressionist who worked mainly in the early decades of the 20th century, here we are facing an imposing landscape. The works of this painter sometimes reach auction prices of several thousand euros.
The painting particularly depicts a boulevard with many horses and a few riders guiding them. In this work Giovani was skilled in describing the animals’ anatomies, and the chiaroscuro with a thick and typically Impressionist brushstroke.
It does not require restoration. The certificate of authenticity is attached. We do not assume responsibility for any damage to the frame, although the painting is packed with every care and professionally. Everything will be shipped via the Mail Boxes Etc. service. For shipments outside the European Union, please allow 14 days for the necessary authorizations.
