“Ingrávido” is a key piece within the Intersticio series. The work portrays the intimacy of a kiss focused on the moment when two faces converge. More than a traditional romantic scene, the composition explores the intermediate space—the threshold of contact—where time and distance seem to freeze. Gestural figuration with an expressionist touch. The anatomy and facial planes are not delineated by rigid lines, but built through broad, fluid, and visible brushstrokes with a pronounced texture on the surface.
Vida AMReyes. (Granma, Cuba 1991) discovered from a very young age that drawing was not just a hobby, but a way to translate the world. In 2010, she graduated with honors from the prestigious Carlos Enrique Gómez Academy of Fine Arts. There she established an exceptional technical prowess in oil painting, acrylics, and drawing from life, foundations that would later shape her conceptual signature.
Her early career unfolded amid Cuban cultural effervescence, actively participating in young art salons and group exhibitions. Her work quickly began to stand out: in salons and exhibitions she earned numerous awards and mentions.
AMReyes’s work is distinguished by a visceral and imposing realism that grabs the eye instantly. However, her approach does not stop at sheer photographic mimesis. On anatomies worked with rigor or faces charged with deep psychographic expressiveness, the artist overlays and integrates icons, allegories, and conceptual elements: wings that seem invisible to those who carry them, suspended threads, blocks of dense color, or garments laden with symbolism. For her, the human body and everyday figures are the perfect canvas to reflect on identity.
This fusion of technical mastery and symbolic narrative opened the way to her international projection. Over the last decade, her pieces have been acquired by private collectors and galleries in:
Spain: Where her conceptual language connects with European Expressionism.
United States: Included in private collections dedicated to contemporary Latin American art.
Belgium and Poland: Shown at figurative art fairs and avant-garde galleries.
Russia: Acquired by collectors fascinated by the technical rigor and the school of realism.
Currently, AMReyes lives in Spain, a country where she has established her studio and consolidated a new creative phase. Far from the fast commercial noise, she continues to develop her artistic life with patience and rigor, exploring painting as a tool for universal introspection. Her studio is today a space of constant creation, where each brushstroke continues to reveal those hidden truths and icons that we all carry inside but often find hard to see.
