Unique artisanal binding in full brown goat leather. Flat spine.
Flyleaves in white tissue paper

Pagination: approximately 384 pages
Dimensions: 15 cm x 19.5 cm

About the work: The Landgrave's Psalter is a liturgical masterpiece of early Gothic created probably between 1211 and 1213 in the Thuringia and Saxony region.
This magnificent manuscript of early Gothic illumination was commissioned by Landgrave Hermann I of Thuringia for his second wife, Sophia.
It was commissioned by Hermann I of Thuringia and Hesse, a ruthless ruler in political matters but a great patron of the arts, who appears depicted in the book alongside his wife Sophia.
The manuscript contains the Psalms, a calendar with representations of the apostles and rural scenes, hymns, a litany of saints, and a service for the dead. After the death of the landgrave, the manuscript belonged to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, who moved it to Marburg. After a somewhat unclear historical journey, the manuscript passed through the Weingarten Abbey and since the early 19th century has belonged to the State Library of Stuttgart.
