The Empirical Mind: Exact Sciences & Technology Auction

For sale is the rare and significant mathematical standard work “Elements of Quaternions” by the legendary Irish mathematician and physicist Sir William Rowan Hamilton. This is the rare, authorized German first translation by Paul Glan (Privatdozent for physics at the University of Berlin), published after Hamilton’s death by his son William Edwin Hamilton.
This two-volume set is a milestone in algebra and describes the quaternions discovered by Hamilton – a groundbreaking extension of the complex numbers to four dimensions, which today plays a crucial role in theoretical physics, computer graphics, and aviation.
Details of the volumes:
• Volume 1 (First Volume): Published 1882 by Johann Ambrosius Barth, Leipzig.
• Volume 2 (Second Volume): Published 1884 by Johann Ambrosius Barth, Leipzig.
