Whatshisname (1982) - Lick Balls

Step into the mischievous world of Whatshisname with this Lick Balls – Red Edition, an official collaboration between the London-based artist Whatshisname and Mighty Jaxx. Released in 2019, this piece is one of the artist’s most talked-about balloon dog designs. Taking the iconic balloon dog form, Whatshisname catches it doing what real dogs do best when nobody is watching: curled up and busy grooming itself in a very unmistakable way. The result is a hilarious, irreverent art toy that pokes fun at the serious world of high-end balloon dog sculpture, and never fails to get a reaction from anyone who spots it on a shelf.

The figure is finished in a deep glossy red that perfectly mimics the stretched, shiny surface of a real twisted balloon. Every detail is sculpted with care, from the knotted balloon ends and the curled tail to the soft creases where each “balloon” twists into the next. The pose is cleverly composed, with the dog folded in on itself, legs splayed and head tucked down, so the piece looks interesting from every angle. Under good lighting, the reflections roll across the curves beautifully and give it a polished, gallery-worthy look.

This is an official Mighty Jaxx Originals release and comes as a complete set, with the original pink “Lick Balls – Designed by Whatshisname” box, the Mighty Jaxx Certificate of Authenticity (black and gold), and the care card. The figure has been displayed indoors, handled with care, and shows no chips, scratches or paint defects. The box is in very good condition. A must-have for any Whatshisname collector, balloon dog fan, or anyone who likes their art with a sense of humour.
