Text: TRANSLATION ACCORDING TO THE VULGATE by Mons. Antonio Martini, Archbishop of Florence.

Illustrations: magnificently enriched with 230 engravings by Gustave Doré printed on full-page plates outside the text, sharp with high contrast. Also present are the famous woodcut friezes by Enrico Giacomelli at the start of the chapter.

External conditions: The volumes preserve the precious original hardcover binding from the period. The structure is perfectly solid, compact and free from breaks, chipping, or severe abrasions to the spine, a defect almost universal for books of this size.

Internal conditions: VERY GOOD fresh, clean paper. Pages free of foxing, humidity stains, writings or tears.

Conservation status (Note for collectors): the work presents in generally very good condition, thus well preserved. For maximum collectible transparency, two wear defects from time, localized only on one volume and clearly documented in photos:
1. Within one volume, a single page is detached and partially torn/ripped on the inner side (the text remains perfectly legible).
2. The inner spine of a volume is partially detached from the binding (the external structure remains joined and fixed; it is a failure of the internal glue due to the book’s imposing weight).
All other elements, the 230 Doré plates and the remaining pages, are stable and in excellent condition. An excellent complete work for enthusiasts and/or restorers.
