Mosè salvato dalle acque, an Italian oil on canvas from the XVII century attributed to Francesco Curradi (1570-1661) and sold with a modern carved gilded frame; framed dimensions 182 cm by 146 cm.
Description from the seller
Attributed to Francesco Curradi,
"Moses Saved from the Waters"
oil on canvas,
first half of the 17th century.
An important Italian painting from the first half of the 17th century. This oil on canvas depicts a fragment of exceptional quality of the painting "Moses Saved from the Waters", attributed to Francesco Curradi (1570-1661), a prominent figure in Florentine devotional painting of the 17th century; there are no authentication records. The Florentine taste for luxury is evident in the quality of the draperies and especially in the symbols, such as the lily, that adorn the elegant garments. The Bible narrates that, to escape the persecution of the Pharaoh, Moses' mother placed the child in a basket in the Nile. He was later found and adopted by the Pharaoh's daughter, who had gone to the river with her handmaids. A third figure is visible in the upper left, turned toward us and breaking the fourth wall; this is likely a self-portrait of the painter or a portrait of the patron. A painting of exceptional size and impact, enriched by a modern carved and gilded frame.
General condition good.
Dimensions without frame: 172 x 136 cm.
with frame: 182 cm x 146 cm
