Description from the seller
Elegant vase from the Florentine manufacture Zaccagnini, characterized by an oval silhouette with rounded shoulders, a narrow neck, and a short circular foot. The body presents a terracotta color surface, animated by a dense workmanship of fine vertical grooves that accentuate its profile and create a refined tactile effect.
Particularly decorative are the two lateral handles, shaped with a curved trend and finished in a golden tone, also echoed on the rim of the mouth and on the base. The contrast between the warm color of the ceramic and the metallic details gives the object a refined appearance, where the simplicity of the volume combines with the preciousness of the finishes.
The form, compact and harmonious, recalls the taste of Italian decorative arts of the 1940s, a period in which the Zaccagnini manufactory experimented with formal solutions and surface treatments of considerable variety.
The manufactory was founded in 1905 by Ugo Zaccagnini (1868-1937), who had previously worked as a plaster modeler at Richard-Ginori of Doccia. The first premises were in Sesto Fiorentino; in 1912 the business moved to Florence, where an ever broader production of maiolicas, decorative ceramics, vases and decorative objects developed.
Zaccagnini managed to fuse the tradition of the great Tuscan ceramics with the new taste orientations of the twentieth century. In the thirties the manufactory collaborated with several artists and sculptors and achieved considerable international fame: by 1937 it employed over 120 people and began exporting to the United States.
A particularly famous chapter in its history is the collaboration with Walt Disney: from the late thirties Zaccagnini produced in ceramic numerous characters from cartoons, including Pinocchio, Snow White, and the Seven Dares, helping to make the brand widely known even among American collecting circles.
In the postwar period the manufactory continued its activity, presenting its ceramics abroad and experimenting in the fifties with new forms of research, including an abstract production called “Swedish.” The historic Zaccagnini company remained active until its definitive closure in 2000.
Excellent condition.
