Description from the seller
Antique Victorian Blue Glass Biscuit Barrel with Hand-Painted Enamel Decoration – c. 1890-1900
An elegant and highly collectible late Victorian / Edwardian biscuit barrel (biscuit jar) dating from the turn of the 20th century (circa 1890–1900).
The barrel is crafted from vibrant, translucent cornflower blue glass, featuring a beautifully tapered ovoid form. It is adorned with intricate, hand-painted white enamel decoration in the traditional "snow painting" (Schneemalerei) style, showcasing delicate geometric lace motifs, starbursts, and stylized floral accents.
The piece is fitted with its original metal collar, a domed fitted lid with a decorative finial, and a matching swing handle. The metalwork shows an attractive aged patina, where the original silver plating has naturally worn down over time to reveal a warm, soft brass/polished base, adding authentic antique character to the item.
A quintessential example of late 19th-century European or British art glass tableware, perfect for collectors of Victorian glass or as a functional statement piece for traditional tea service.
