Achille Formis is the pseudonym of Achille Befani (Naples, September 15, 1832 – Milan, October 28, 1906) and was an Italian painter.
Achille Befani was born in Naples, where he began a career as a singer, which he abandoned in the early 1860s when, under the pseudonym Formis, he moved to Milan to study at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His oriental-themed works, produced after returning from repeated journeys to the Near East, were highly regarded; in addition, from the seventies he painted landscapes inspired by the Lombard countryside and the environs of Lake Maggiore, becoming a valued interpreter of Lombard naturalism alongside painters such as Eugenio Gignous, his friend since their Academy days. He participated in the annual Brera exhibitions and, in 1887, at the Venice National Artistic Exhibition, where he returned in 1899 with a view of the Mantuan countryside. He then exhibited in Berlin in 1896 and in Munich in 1901 and 1906, the year of his death.
In 1899 he participated in the III International Art Exhibition of Venice.
