Description from the seller
Signed painting in the upper right by Carlo Verdecchia (1905–1984), an Abruzzese painter trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples. He began his artistic career in 1927 and participated in major national and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennales and the Rome Quadriennials.
Stables and cattle are among the most characteristic subjects of his production: together with peasants, shepherds and carts, they belong to the repertoire with which Verdecchia told the rural life of Abruzzo. In this work the theme is addressed with energetic and concise painting: the robust brushstrokes and chromatic contrasts convey the presence of the animals and the intimate atmosphere of the stable.
Verdecchia’s research remained tied to the themes of his land, interpreted with a personal language, sometimes harsh and of strong expressive intensity. His works are preserved, among others, in the public collections of Pescara and Teramo.
The painting is presented in a gilded frame with a wide mat, which shows signs of wear.
Dimensions of the work: 30 × 35 cm
Dimensions with frame: 50 × 54 cm
