Description from the seller
Chandelier and alabaster bowl – 19th century
France, second half of the 19th century
Elegant and spectacular Napoleonic III-style French chandelier, crafted in richly ornamented and gilded bronze, presenting a substantial circular alabaster bowl with beautiful natural nuances.
The structure of the chandelier is particularly decorative and richly worked. It features many ornaments characteristic of the Second Empire taste: scrollwork, acanthus leaves, garlands, volutes and foliate elements.
The central part consists of a beautiful alabaster bowl of about 40 cm in diameter. The natural translucency of this stone allows for a particularly warm illumination. An independent light source is placed inside to illuminate the bowl and bring out the natural nuances of the alabaster.
The chandelier also has three light arms ending in glass tulips. Each tulip is held by three brass screws gripping the edge of the glass, a fixing system characteristic of this type of antique lighting fixture.
The whole assembly presents a substantial decorative upper portion as well as a suspension chain.
The electrification has been redone, allowing the chandelier to be used in a contemporary interior.
There is a discreet crack at the top of the shaft, invisible when suspended and not compromising the structure, the whole being fixed by an internal threaded rod.
